What to doMeeting Amazon and Tapajós rivers - a masterpiece of nature
Regarded as intangible cultural heritage of nature, the meeting of the dark muddy waters of the Amazon River with the green clear Tapajós River water, and watching it closely how the water flows side by side for for about 6Km, an occurrence known as ‘the Meeting of the Waters’ or Encontro das Águas in Portuguese. It is an amazing experience. The phenomenon is a result of temperature and the water density. This happens in the lower Amazon, more punctiliously in Santarém.
Best time to visit
During the Amazon summer from August to December, when it is a totaly possible to see the green clear water of Tapajós River, however, during the rainy season the Tapajós River presents a dark hue. The Amazon River remains its tonality in only two periods.
What to do there
A speedboat tour leaving from Santarém docks. Enjoy the opportunity to contemplate the view, landscape, the exotic animals and "meeting of waters".
